Hobuck Hoedown is a sanctioned competition conducted under the rules of the World Surf Kayak Association and are adapted for other craft not covered in these documents.
We will continue to feature surf kayaks, wave-skis, SUPs, and sea kayaks in the line-up and are expanding the competition by a day in order to accommodate the demand from sea kayakers and intermediate level competitors.

Who the paddler is (gender, age),
Open is for any gender

What craft they are paddling (sea kayak, surf kayak, wave-ski, WW boat, SUP)
The competition occurs over a three day period. Each day is broken up into a series of 20 minute heats where 3-5 paddlers will compete together seeking the highest scores from the judges. A panel of 3 judges and a head judge assign scores to each wave the competitor catches and performs maneuvers on (see more on scoring below.) Each event division has at least a semi-final and final heat to decide a winner. Divisions with more competitors may also have qualifying heats.

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL
The intermediate level is aimed at those very new to competition. Anyone who is new to the competition scene, or still working out some basic moves, may feel free to sign up for this level. All heats are scored so it is definitely a competition! But the vibe on the water is friendly and collaborative.
Sea Kayaks
If you are a sea kayaker and can catch waves and create rides you are ready to compete at the intermediate level. At minute 2:39 of the video below you can watch the 2024 Intermediate Sea Kayak Finals.
